FAQs

What type of documents do you track?
LegalSquire tracks Contracts, Various Agreements (including NDA’s, License Agreements and Software License Agreements), Patents, Invention Disclosures, Trademarks, Copyrights and Domain Names. LegalSquire also allows you to keep track of hard files and company & contact information related to these documents.
We already have all of our data in a spreadsheet or a desktop database, can we import our information into LegalSquire?
If you have been using another program such as a spreadsheet to monitor your documents, LegalSquire allows you to upload most of your data into the program using either XML or flat files. This allows for a much easier migration from your old tracking system to LegalSquire. A lot of the data entry you did in your old system can be saved.
How much training is required to use the program?
If you are just looking up a document - about 5 minutes. If you are the person responsible for maintaining the program - 30 minutes to one hour.
We only need to track one type of document, Contracts, can we use LegalSquire for this?
Yes, LegalSquire can track all the types listed above or only one type of document.
Why is this program better than just creating something on our own?
Who has time to create a tracking program from scratch?
LegalSquire is ready to go, out of the box. Buy it, install it and have it ready to collect data within hours of receiving it.
We’ll do it in-house!
If you end up using a development tool, there are limits to what you can do with other programs. They require a lot more maintenance, time, and finances than LegalSquire. If the person who is responsible for creating and maintaining your creation leaves, how will you continue to support it?
We’ll hire a programmer to do it!
To do this you would need to find and hire a programmer you trust, and spend a lot of time and money assisting in the development. Not only is it money your company will be paying the programmer, but also money your company will be paying an employee while they assist in the development instead of doing their primary job.
Also, you don’t know how much it will cost. With LegalSquire, you can budget for the total expense. With a programmer it could take a lot longer than you think and end up costing a lot more than was budgeted.
New Features: Need to bring programmer back; with us if you are under the maintenance plan you automatically receive new features with little effort.
Can LegalSquire notify me when dates or actions have occurred?
LegalSquire has a notification function called Subscriptions. You can subscribe yourself or someone else to be reminded of important dates and alerted to important events. If you would like to send notifications to those that do not have access to the software itself (for example, notifying an engineer that their patent was issued), this is also possible. See Offline User Licenses for more information on this feature.
We would like to manipulate our data in a spreadsheet program, can you download the information into a spreadsheet?
If you need to manipulate the data you’ve entered in a spreadsheet, LegalSquire can accommodate this with the click of a button. Although LegalSquire doesn’t come with a spreadsheet feature, it does come with the ability to download your information into a spreadsheet program of your choice.
What software and hardware do I need to run LegalSquire?
LegalSquire requires a relational database and a Java application server. Depending upon usage, LegalSquire can either run on it’s own server or a shared server. For further details, refer to the System Requirements page.
We have legal documents we would like to track in different locations; Can we use LegalSquire remotely?
Because LegalSquire is web based, there is minimal difference between accessing the server down the hall or across the country. LegalSquire can be remotely accessed quickly and easily.
